Album cover artwork for a piece of contemporary classical music, interpreted by music students of the Nordical Institute of Scene & Studio (NISS).
I worked together with Eirik Torgersen and Anna Ducros on this project.
We wanted to visualize the feeling this piece of music gave us, and our group chose transparency as a tool to convey them.
On the sleeve, the "Lied" title has been distorted and placed over the black circle. This makes the title almost invisible, and the cover has to be separated from the sleeve to make it readable.
The closed cover shows a complete circle with the title and the text on a removable outer sleeve. When you open the cover you break the circle and show a more vulnerable side of the piece – as we interpreted it. We wanted to create an interactive solution, and visualize the depth of the piece through layers of the transparent cover.
We used acetone to transfer the illustration of a circle to transparent plastic, which we later folded and made into the CD cover.
This projects was also featured in the book PALETTE 06: Transparent by publisher Victionary.
